Utility-scale generally refers to grid-connected solar power plants typically several MW and above built to generate and sell power at scale, often through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), rather than for a single business's on-site consumption. This distinguishes utility-scale from C&I solar, where a business installs a system primarily to offset its own electricity use.In practice, utility-scale projects bring engineering demands that smaller projects don't: large-plot land layout, MV/HV substation design, structural engineering validated against site-specific wind and soil conditions, and financing-grade documentation (DPR, PVsyst P90/P95 reporting) sized to the scrutiny that project debt and equity investors apply.
